BENGALE - RADHA BHAVA - PARVATHY BAUL -

Parvathy comes from a Brahman family of Bangladesh, but she studied in Bengal. She was drawn to the arts and particularly to painting, and it was while she was studying the latter that she first came into contact with the world of the Bâuls, whose visual aspect and atypical behaviour attracted her. She became a disciple (rare for a woman), spent some time in Kerala in search of authentic tradition, and then returned to complete her initiation as a Bâul.
At the invitation of the Maison des Cultures du Monde (Paris) and the Ateliers d’Ethnomusicologie (Geneva), she made her first European appearance in 2001 as a soloist.

The following year she returned, this time with other musicians, representing Bengal’s most authentic traditions. To hear the ecstatic voice of Parvathy (now twenty-five) is a remarkable and delightful experience.
