MALI - DENGO - SOUNGALO COULIBALY -

For several years now Soungalo Coulibaly has been travelling all over Europe giving concerts and courses in African percussion. Solo or with his ensemble, he has made numerous appearances at the great European jazz and world music festivals, as well as at the great West African percussion events (including the first International Percussion Biennial in Conakry, Guinea). Connoisseurs regard him as one of today's very great percussionists. His three records are considered as references. Dengo, his second disc, co-produced by Radio Suisse Romande -Espace 2, received a major award from Le Monde de la Musique. ‘Soungalo Coulibaly is convincing with his rigorous approach in which the resources of modern technology are entirely at the service of authentic art.

“Flez Music”, created by Soungalo, is an acoustic genre – no use of electronic instruments – but it is resolutely urban and contemporary, blending the balafon and the guitar, the kamele n'goni and the djembé. In complicity with the Swiss musician Vincent Zanetti, the master percussionist achieves an original synthesis, from which emerges the strong and moving voice of the Malian singer Mariam Diakité.’ (Laurent Aubert)
